Virtual Financial Aid Information Sessions


The FCC Financial Aid Office invites all students (potential, current, etc.) to a virtual financial aid information session. Shelby Metzgar, Assistant Director of Financial Aid Services & Outreach, will present on the following topics:

  • Financial Aid Basics
  • Federal Student Aid (FSA)
  • Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Maryland State Financial Aid
  • Other Sources of Financial Aid (Private, Institutional, Employer)
  • PeopleSoft Navigation
  • Q&A Session

This event is open to all students even if they have not 100% decided that they will attend FCC during the 2021-2022 academic year.

Students/parents/staff should register for the event even if they are unsure if they can attend the live session as the presentation will be recorded and a link to the recorded session will be sent to all registrants. Current FCPS students should not register using their FCPS email. We will not be able to send the recording link to the FCPS email as external emails are blocked.

The presentation itself will be about an hour long and we will have a Q&A session at the end.

The timing of these events are incredibly important as Maryland’s Priority deadline for submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is 3/1/2021. Students should submit the FAFSA even if they aren’t sure if they will be attending college/trade school, if they don’t think they will be eligible due to family income, and/or if they have not decided where they will be attending.

If students need assistance with their FAFSA, they may be referred to our email [email protected] or phone (301) 846-2620. At least one of our staff members are in the office Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. to answer calls and reply to voicemails. It is our goal to reply to emails and voicemails within 24-48 business hours, but we are typically ahead of that timeframe. We have had great success in assisting students and their families with the FAFSA via Zoom appointments.

Additionally, there are financial aid opportunities available for students that are undocumented and meet certain requirements. If you are meeting with students who are undocumented and they need more information about these opportunities please refer them directly to me. I can be reached via email at [email protected] and if needed I can schedule a time to give the students a call. I will cover these opportunities during the presentations, so these students should also be encouraged to register!
