200 Monroe Restaurant Open in March to General Public
02/15/2018
Frederick Community College students enrolled in the Hospitality, Culinary, and Tourism Institute will showcase their skills on Thursdays this spring when the FCC gourmet restaurant opens for its sixth season.

Members of the public are invited to dine at 200 Monroe Restaurant -- in the Monroe Center at 200 Monroe Avenue in Frederick -- between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, March 1 – May 10 (closed March 29). Advance reservations for two to four guests are required and will be accepted at http://bit.ly/2F3Hjpa. Only major credit cards are accepted for payment.

Guests can enjoy a three-course meal prepared and served by HCTI students under the guidance of the executive chef and instructors. Menu items will include Maryland crab soup, French crepes with chicken, wild mushrooms in a white wine cream sauce, steak frites, chocolate flourless cake, crème brulée and more. Proceeds from the restaurant support student learning in the HCTI program.

“200 Monroe offers our students a capstone learning experience where they showcase the culinary and hospitality skills they’ve learned as they near the completion of their associate degree program,” said Elizabeth DeRose, HCTI manager. “Students gain firsthand experience in the operation of a full-service restaurant while our entire community gets to enjoy the unique skills they’ve honed at HCTI.”

Guests will meet the students, who will rotate between the restaurant’s kitchen and dining room. While in the kitchen, students work on a la carte food preparation, cooking, and plating techniques. While working the dining room, they learn various styles of table and beverage service with a focus on customer relations and timing of service.
