FCC Hosting Discussion and Q&A with Author of “The Boys in the Boat”
09/23/2015
Daniel James Brown, author of “The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics” will visit Frederick Community College on Sept. 28.

“The Boys in the Boat” is the dramatic true story of the American rowing team that stunned the world at the 1936 Berlin Olympics during the Adolf Hitler regime.

Brown’s visit will include a book discussion, Q&A, and book signing. The event will begin at 11 a.m. in the Jack B. Kussmaul Theater and is free and open to the public.

The event is in partnership with the Maryland Humanities Council’s “One Maryland One Book (OMOB)” program and Frederick County Public Libraries. Each year, a new book is chosen for the OMOB program, that state’s largest reading and discussion program. The program strives to unite diverse populations in communities across Maryland through the shared experience of reading the same book. Book-centered discussions and other events are held at public libraries, high schools, colleges, and other community centers.

“The Boys in the Boat” was chosen as the 2015 OMOB because it best encapsulates the theme for this year’s program, which is “the human drama of athletic competition.”

Brown’s visit to FCC will be the second stop during his OMOB author tour, which includes six events from Sept. 27 to Sept. 30.

Copies of the book can be purchased at the FCC Bookstore.
