Dr. Tony Hawkins Named FCC Provost

Dr. Tony Hawkins has been named the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Frederick Community College. Dr. Hawkins assumed the position on Jan. 26.

In this role, he will serve as the chief academic officer for the College.

“I look forward to engaging faculty to promote the best possible academic experience for Frederick Community College students,” Hawkins said. “Working with the faculty and staff in the Academic Affairs unit, I hope to identify innovative strategies, tools, and resources to positively impact student learning from the moment students enter the College until they complete their career or transfer goals.  I am also excited to join the leadership team under President Elizabeth Burmaster.  I believe in her vision for FCC and will do my best to help her realize it.”

 Since 2004, Dr. Hawkins has served as the Instructional Dean of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Montgomery College. He also served as their Acting Vice President and Provost the Summer/Fall of 2006 and Summer of 2008.

Dr. Hawkins earned a M.A. degree in Philosophy and Rhetoric from the University of Georgia and a Ph.D. in Higher Education: Administration, Leadership, and Technology from New York University. He also has a Certificate of Advanced Study in Administration, Planning and Social Policy from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.
