FCC Accepting Applications for Parents Lead Program, Now Offering Evening Childcare
09/26/2018
Frederick Community College is accepting applications for the third cohort of the Parents Lead program, which provides scholarship funding and academic support to help parents earn a degree.

Created for financially-eligible parents of young children, the program provides specialized curriculum, advising services, and funding to offset the costs of childcare while parents attend evening classes.

The cohort-based program includes a combination of online and on-campus evening classes and can be completed in as few as five semesters. Additional financial aid is also available to assist eligible students at FCC with tuition and fees.

The program is designed primarily for students seeking an A.A. degree in general studies while also assisting those who wish to transfer into alternate degree and certificate programs.

Students in the third cohort will begin classes in spring 2019.

Space in the Parents Lead program is limited. Interested parents should complete this online application by October 15 for best consideration.

The Carl and Norma Miller Children’s Center at FCC now offers weekly evening hours to serve FCC students who need childcare coverage while they take evening classes.

Childcare will be provided at the center, which is located on the main FCC campus, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday for $33 a night. It will be offered to children ages 3-11 whose parents are enrolled at the College for evening classes. Drop-off for evening care begins at 5:45 p.m.

A maximum of 20 children can be accommodated and pre-registration is required. For additional information or to sign up, please contact Teri Bickel, the Director for the Children’s Center, at 301.846.2612.

Parents Lead is supported by the FCC Foundation.
