FCC Accepting Student Business Plans for Scholarship Competition
03/04/2019
Frederick Community College students will present business plans to a panel of judges as they compete to win scholarships provided by M&T Bank during the sixth annual Business Plan Contest on Wednesday, April 24, 2019.

“This is a unique event that brings together our students and the business community, with generous funding each year by M&T Bank,” said Larry Devan, FCC Assistant Professor of Business and Economics and Coordinator of the Business Plan Contest. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to develop and present a full business plan, receive valuable feedback from experienced business leaders, and compete for scholarship money. We thank M&T Bank and our judges for providing this incredible learning experience.”

All currently enrolled FCC students are invited to develop a business plan and apply for the contest. To be eligible, students must complete an online application by March 22. Students then need to submit their business plan online by April 12.

The panel of judges, made up of local business experts, will review all business plan submissions and select three finalists. Those finalists will present their plans to the judges, in
a format similar to the popular TV show “Shark Tank,” on April 24 at 11 a.m.

The judges will name the first, second, and third place winners, who will receive scholarships from M&T Bank that can be used at FCC or to further their education at another college or university.

First place - $2,500 scholarship
Second place - $1,500 scholarship
Third place - $1,000 scholarship

The judges for the 2019 Business Plan Contest are:
  • Whitney Dahlberg – Owner of The Muse, located in downtown Frederick
  • James Gorman – Vice President with M&T Bank
  • Jon C. Holmes – Tax Principal with Linton Shafer Warfield & Garrett, P.A.
  • Rick Weldon – President/CEO of the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce
  • Mike Winder – Owner of the Winder Company, which operates five small businesses in downtown Frederick

Individuals and teams of two students can enter. Teams will split scholarship awards equally.
