FCC Baseball Headed to NJCAA D2 World Series

The Frederick Community College Baseball team is headed to the NJCAA D2 World Series next weekend in Enid, Oklahoma.

The Cougars advanced to the World Series after beating Lackawanna College in a best-of-three series on May 15 and May 16.

“This has been a truly special season and I’m so proud of our players for the heart and dedication they have shown all year,” Head Coach and FCC Athletic Director Rodney Bennett said. “We’re excited to be able to represent FCC on the national stage at the World Series next week.”

FCC lost the first game before bouncing back and winning the next two games to take the series.

The team won game three on May 16 by a score of 6-3 on a walk-off three-run home run from first baseman Chris Mattison.

With the win, the Cougars advance to the World Series as the Northeast representative. They will square off against the Midwest representative at noon on Saturday, May 23 at the David Allen Memorial Ballpark in Enid.

FCC last sent a team to the World Series in 2010. The team now has a 49-7 season record is ranked third in the nation for its division.

Three individual records have been broken this season. Devin Bell now holds the record for most single season home runs (19) and Chris Mattison is the record-holder for most hits (106) and most steals (20) in a single season.

Coach Rodney Bennett is 484-182 at the helm and has now sent three teams to the World Series.
