Noah Grove, a 2017 graduate of Urbana High School and Paralympian on the 2017-18 USA National Sled Hockey Team, will be the featured speaker at the Moving Mountains speaker series Wednesday, April 11, 2018, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the JBK Theater, Visual & Performing Arts Center.
 
In addition, the March 21 program that was canceled due to inclement weather featuring Lieutenant Colonel Brian D. Moore, DVM, Ph.D, has been rescheduled for May 9.
 
The monthly series features inspiring professionals who share their life experiences and encourage teens and young adults to set the bar high in all areas of their lives. All sessions are free and open to the public.
 
Grove, who is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science (medical and veterinary sciences) at the University of New Hampshire, recently competed in the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. The USA National Sled Hockey Team captured its third straight gold medal with a 2-1 overtime win against Canada. Grove scored goals against Japan and Italy in preliminary play.
 
Grove was diagnosed with bone cancer in his leg shortly before his fifth birthday. The leg was later amputated to halt the spread of the disease, and Grove also underwent months of chemotherapy. After learning how to run on his prosthetic leg, Grove played soccer as an eight-year-old. He skated two seasons with the U.S. National Development Sled Hockey Team before making his U.S. National Team debut in 2016. In addition to sled hockey, Grove has competed on the U.S. Amputee Soccer Team.
 
There is no pre-registration required to attend the Moving Mountains series. Students sign in when they arrive, and those who attend three sessions in an academic year will receive a certificate of participation and leadership.
 
Lieutenant Colonel Moore will be the final speaker this academic year in the Moving Mountains series Wednesday, May 9, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the JBK Theater, Visual & Performing Arts Center.
 
Moore is Director of Biocontainment at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, and has served in the United States Army 25 years. He earned his doctorate in Comparative Pathology/Virology from University of California, Davis, and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University. Moore received a bachelor's degree in Animal Science/pre-Veterinary medicine from Cal Poly where he played collegiate football.
 
The title of Moore's talk is, "Achieving Goals - Everything I learned about achieving success I learned in the weight room and football field."
