FCC Offering Accelerated Training for In-Demand IT Jobs, Holding Open House This Week
05/31/2017
Frederick Community College is now offering Tech Connect, a new grant-funded program that provides accelerated training designed to fill gaps in the training pipeline for in-demand IT jobs.

Tech Connect will include separate tracks in Networking Engineering, IT User Support Specialist, Healthcare IT Technician, and Web Programmer. Each track will take between four and six months to complete. The first track offered will be Network Engineering.

There will be an information session about Tech Connect and the Network Engineering track on Friday, June 2 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Monocacy Room of the Frederick County Workforce Services. The Network Engineering track will begin on July 6th and runs through December 12th. Classes will take place on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Tech Connect is aimed at individuals who may have some work experience, or have completed some college courses but lack the industry credentials or relevant work experience to land a job in the IT sector.

“We know there are many individuals who want to get into IT or reach the next step in their IT career, but are unable to do that without additional training,” said Kathi Groover, Business & Technology program manager. “This program will help them do that and will benefit our community by providing a skilled workforce in critical IT fields.”

The non-credit program emphasizes hands-on project-based problem solving using real work scenarios through in-person and online learning. It provides career guidance, workplace experiences, and job placement support for all participants.

Upon completion of a program, individuals will be able to demonstrate a portfolio of work to employers or test for industry credentials recognized by area employers.

For more information about the program, including program eligibility and to apply, visit www.frederick.edu/TechConnect or email Kathi Groover.
