FCC Restaurant Opens for To-Go Gourmet Dinner Service
02/25/2021

The FCC restaurant, 200 Monroe, will offer gourmet, curbside, to-go dinners to members of the public on Thursdays. The meals are prepared by students in the FCC Hospitality, Culinary, and Tourism Institute (HCTI) under the guidance of the executive chef and FCC instructors.

Members of the public can order the meals online, which come with a first-course, entrée, and a sweet treat. Patrons can choose between a soup or salad option for their first course, and four cheese and spinach cannelloni, chicken with wild mushroom sauce, Asian grilled flank steak, or shrimp crab cake for their entrée. Each order includes a sweet treat freshly made by the baking and pastry class. Iced tea or lemonade is also included.

“Every semester, we are extremely impressed and proud of our HCTI students for running a restaurant that provides gourmet, creative meals for members of the public,” FCC President Elizabeth Burmaster said. “These students gain critical real-world experience through the 200 Monroe restaurant and we are grateful to HCTI Program Manager Elizabeth DeRose for ensuring this experience can continue safely during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

While the students usually offer full restaurant service to the public as part of their capstone learning experience, this is the second semester they are instead doing curbside to-go orders.

“This has been an important learning experience for us all, having to quickly adapt, think on our feet, and problem solve to provide the same high quality of service to the public in the midst of the pandemic,” said Elizabeth DeRose, HCTI program manager. “We are grateful to our community for continuing to support our students during this exciting time in their culinary and hospitality education.”

The restaurant will be open on Thursdays from March 4 to May 6, 2021 with the exception of April 1, when the College is closed for spring break. Orders can be made throughout the week for Thursday pick up. There are a limited number of orders available each week, so patrons are encouraged to order early. The restaurant has received numerous positive accolades over the last few years. It was one of only two restaurants to receive a five-star review by Frederick News-Post food critics during the entire year of 2019.

Also in past seasons, 200 Monroe has been named to numerous OpenTable Diners’ Choice lists, including the best overall, best value, fit for foodies, great for lunch, and best food lists.
