FCC Signs Nursing Agreement with Shepherd University
08/27/2020
Shepherd University and Frederick Community College (FCC) have signed a new 2+2 R.N.-B.S.N. agreement that will provide a seamless pathway for nursing students from FCC to earn their bachelor’s degree at Shepherd.

Under the agreement, FCC students who earn an associate of applied science in nursing, have a grade point average of 2.7 or better, and who have not matriculated at any other institution of higher education will be guaranteed transfer admission to Shepherd to earn a Bachelor of Science in nursing.

“The need for nurses and other healthcare professionals is more critical than ever,” said Scott Beard, Shepherd provost. “This new agreement creates a pathway for registered nurses to complete their B.S.N. degree and allows them to be employed or to keep employment in larger healthcare settings like magnet hospitals. Nursing is one of our largest enrolled programs at Shepherd, and these transfer agreements allow us to continue to help students throughout the region attain their professional goals and for us to continue to serve the greater good.”

“We’re just thrilled to receive Frederick Community College students,” said Dr. Sharon Mailey, dean, College of Nursing, Education, and Health Sciences, and director, School of Nursing. “They’re motivated, they’re excellent academically, we just really enjoy having them here, and we want to make this their home.”

“Each year, knowledgeable and compassionate students graduate from our strong nursing program and are ready for the next step in their nursing career,” said FCC President Elizabeth Burmaster. “We are proud to announce this new agreement with Shepherd University that provides an excellent opportunity for our nursing students who want to continue their education and earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing.”
