Governor Wes Moore to Provide Address During FCC President’s Investiture Ceremony

Frederick Community College (FCC) is pleased to announce that Maryland Governor Wes Moore will provide an address during the Investiture Ceremony for President Annesa Payne Cheek.
 
The Investiture, at which President Cheek will be formally installed as the 11th President of FCC, will be held on Friday, September 29 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the FCC Athletics Center.
 
“September 29, 2023 will be a truly special day in the history of our College, as we host the Investiture Ceremony for our new transformative leader, President Annesa Payne Cheek,” said Carolyn Kimberlin, Chair of the FCC Board of Trustees. “We are honored that Governor Moore also embraces the significance of this event and will share his congratulatory message with the College and the Frederick community.” 
 
In addition to Gov. Moore, the ceremony will feature an inaugural address from President Cheek, as well as remarks from County and City officials, including:
  • Jessica Fitzwater, Frederick County Executive
  • Michael O’Connor, Mayor of The City of Frederick 
  • Lara Fritts, Director of the Frederick County Division of Economic Opportunity
Rick Weldon, President and CEO for the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce, will serve as the event’s master of ceremonies.
 
The Investiture is open to the public. Registration is required and can be done online through the FCC Inauguration webpage. Doors to the Athletic Center open at 12:20 p.m.
 
For the safety of all those in attendance, backpacks, bags, and purses are prohibited in the Athletics Center. Public Safety personnel will be in attendance to enforce this regulation.

This is Gov. Moore’s second visit to FCC since he took office in January 2023. He previously visited in March, when FCC hosted the Governor’s statewide cabinet meeting road tour.
