Fifty-eight recent Frederick County high school graduates participated in a two-week bridge program at Frederick Community College, prior to the start of the fall semester. The initiative was made possible through a $78,000 Maryland College Access Challenge Grant from the Maryland Higher Education Commission. The grant program supports initiatives that help at-risk students succeed in college and beyond.
FCC’s program -- run by the Office of Multicultural Student Services -- is called “Partnership to Achieving Student Success (PASS).” To qualify, students had to be enrolled in one or more developmental courses at FCC, live in a low-income household, be a first-generation college student or meet other criteria. The yearlong PASS Program features a wide array of academic support services; in the summer and winter bridge programs, students receive special tutoring, career advising and personal development.
