The Art Area of Concentration enables students to explore and develop areas of concentration which may lead to an associate in arts degree, transfer to a four-year college or university program, or to pursue individual artistic directions.

The A.A. in Arts & Humanities introduces students to a broad array of the Arts & Humanities and prepares students for transfer to a four-year college or university program in Arts & Humanities disciplines. Some students will choose an approved Area of Concentration, while others will explore the Arts & Humanities more generally. The A.A. in Arts & Humanities is also an ideal degree for students interested in earning an A.A. degree alongside the certificate in American Sign Language Studies, or for preparing to enter the Sign Language interpreter Program.

The Communication Area of Concentration is designed for students interested in all fields stressing human interaction. Communication courses teaches students how to create messages appropriate to the audience, purpose, and context, critically analyze messages, ethically apply communication principles and practices, and utilize communication to embrace difference. In addition to communication courses, a broad range of social science and humanities courses are recommended. This option is designed to prepare students to transfer to a four-year college or university.

Students who study higher level mathematics are sought out by employers because of their problem-solving skills, ability to think logically, and ability to understand technical information. Students who earn degrees in mathematics go on to work in banking and finance, actuarial sciences, operations research, computer science, cryptology, and teaching.

The new Exercise Science Area of Concentration (AOC)has been approved by MHEC, which replaces this program. New students should select the new Exercise Science AOC for the 2024-2025 catalog year. Students in the Health and Exercise Sciences AOC under a previous catalog year will have the option to change their major to the new Exercise Science AOC with the 2024-2025 catalog year or complete the Health and Exercise Sciences AOC under their previous catalog year. Physical Therapist Assistant
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) A.A.S. program prepares students for a career in physical therapy and allows students to enter the workforce directly after passing the national licensing examination. Physical therapy is a dynamic health career and PTAs provide a variety of physical therapy techniques. PTAs conduct therapeutic exercises, functional trainings, deep soft tissue massages, and other physical modalities such as electrotherapy and ultrasound.

The Respiratory Care program prepares students for general careers within the field and qualifies them to take the National Board for Respiratory Cares' entry level exams (CRT and RRT). The program follows the CoARC Goal: To prepare graduates with demonstrated competence in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains of respiratory care practice as performed by registered respiratory therapists (RRTs).

The Pre-Health Professions Area of Concentration provides the general education curriculum that prepares students for transfer to a four-year college or university to pursue a healthcare-related bachelor’s degree. Students who intend to apply for selective admission to the FCC Nursing, Respiratory Care, or Surgical Technology programs should follow the Pre-Health Professions Concentration pathway specific to those programs to complete the required selective admissions courses prior to applying for their program.

The Sign Language Interpreter Preparatory Program offers degree and certificate programs designed to provide students with a strong foundation of knowledge, skills, and practical experience to become successful working interpreters.
