Public Safety Vehicles Have a New Look

10/20/2025

To improve visibility, authority, and emergency response, the Public Safety & Campus Police Department has upgraded its patrol vehicle lighting from yellow to blue and white. This change:

  • Enhances recognition of campus patrol presence.
  • Differentiates patrol vehicles from maintenance units. Many maintenance vehicles use yellow lighting, so the new lights offer an easy way to identify the type of vehicle. Maintenance vehicles will retain their yellow lighting.
  • Provides a quick distinction between Campus Police and Public Safety vehicles versus local law enforcement vehicles. Campus vehicles use only blue and white lights, while local or county law enforcement vehicles also include red lights.
  • Improves response times and safety during emergencies.
  • Aligns FCC with other community colleges in our region, which also use blue patrol lights.

Steady blue lights will be in use for routine patrols. The flashing blue and white lights are for use during emergencies to improve visibility, helping to clear paths and reduce response times during emergencies.
