President Cheek receiving Chromebook
FCC and United Way to Provide Free Chromebooks to Students
04/10/2024
The FCC Foundation, Inc., in partnership with the United Way of Frederick County, is sponsoring a Chromebook Giveaway Event at Frederick Community College (FCC). The event will take place in the FCC Student Center, room H-205, on Tuesday, April 16 between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

As part of a statewide effort to provide the devices to local, low-income families, this event will provide 150 Chromebooks to FCC students who meet the following criteria:
  • Recipient is 18 years or older and either a Frederick County resident or has a permanent Maryland address.
  • Recipient is currently enrolled as a credit student at FCC.
  • Recipient is eligible for and receives a Federal Pell Grant at FCC (Pell eligibility will be verified by the FCC Financial Aid Office).
  • Recipient must have and bring a valid driver's license or FCC Student ID to the appointment.

The event's focus is to help reduce the digital divide in Frederick County by allocating Chromebooks to households that lack the technology. One Chromebook may go to each household address.

“Access to technology is both an essential need and a budgetary pain point for ALICE individuals,” said Ken Oldham, President & CEO of United Way of Frederick County. “We are delighted to partner with FCC to provide students with Chromebooks at no charge as they work to grow their careers and improve their financial stability.”

Students will be pre-qualified by the FCC Financial Aid Office prior to the event. Walk-ins will be accepted and eligibility will be determined at the event. Click here to schedule an appointment.

“Access to digital technology fortifies digital equity for our students and our community,” said Dr. Annesa Payne Cheek, FCC President. “It is not a luxury, but a necessity. We are thankful that the United Way, Frederick County Government, and the State of Maryland recognize this as a priority that is paramount for student success and ultimately an economically successful community.”
