Frederick Community College (FCC) recently unveiled a new Family Study Space, offering parenting students and their children a dedicated space where they can study and recharge.
The space provides an inclusive and welcoming environment for student parents and caregivers to comfortably study while children can read, play with toys, and enjoy an interactive wall display. A pack-n-play is also provided, making the Family Study Space suitable for children of all ages.
FCC has more than 500 parenting students enrolled this fall and recognizes the need to properly serve them as they continue their education to create a brighter future for their families.
“Parenting students have many responsibilities to balance with families, school, work, and other commitments,” said Michelle Ricketts, Director of Student Success & Retention. “We wanted to create a space where both parenting students and their children feel supported and valued.”
The Family Study Space was one outcome of an 18-month action plan that FCC developed, outlining goals and strategies for creating sustainable supports for parenting students. The space is located in Annapolis Hall, A-101 and is open Monday and Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
